Landeshauptstadt Mainz Direkt zum Inhalt
Not only is this Bundesland-- or province or state -- young, having been created barely 60 years ago in 1946, but it’s ancient as well…it goes back 2,000 years and its big major rivers, the Mosel and the Rhine, and its smaller streams like the Nahe, Ruwer, and Ahr, and parts of the Lahn offered fun and games, relaxation and sport as much to Roman colonists two millennia ago as its does for kids of all ages today.
Hospitality is a natural trait among Rheinland-Pfaelzer which is hardly surprizing. Glorious scenery, wonderful wines (six of Germany’s top 13 growing areas alone in R-P!) and delicious foods to go with them, are among our major attractions for people from abroad as well as Germans of all ages.
With a population of only 4,000,000 inhabiting an area of just 20,000 sq. kilometers., we Rheinland-Pfaelzer work hard so that we may play hard, and frequently. There’s always some festival or other going on!
R-P is prosperous, too. A disproportionate amount of gross national product is generated here with some 40% of our manufactures being exported. These include chemicals, pharmaceuticals, and, of course, our world-famous wines! Furthermore R-P is an immediate media-IT center, as well. Lots of TV production and entertainment. Plenty of theater, music, shows, happenings. Car racing, too.
Loads of sunshine and a milder climate make our central European location especially pleasant, and in terms of both Germany and the new Europe as a whole, we are right in the middle of where’s at. Situated and centered along the mighty Rhine river, our aquatic expressway to the Alps or the north Sea, is a natural conduit bringing young travelers our way.
