Landeshauptstadt Mainz Direkt zum Inhalt
The Landesmuseum Mainz accommodates the most important art collection of the state of Rhineland-Palatinate. Its beginnings go back, among other things, to a gift by Napoleon from 1803. It is thus one of Germany’s oldest museums.
Apart from Roman stone monuments and pre-historical and early historical findings from the Middle Rhine, the Landesmuseum’s collections include works of painting, sculpture and crafts from the Middle Ages down to the present.
In addition, the museum has the largest graphic collection in the state of Rhineland-Palatinate as well as outstanding collections of art nouveau glass and Hoechst porcelain. The permanent exhibition is supplemented by changing temporary exhibitions on the most varied topics and epochs. Museum educational events for children and adults, guided tours, lectures as well as advice for visitors bring the museum’s riches closer to the public.
The permanent exhibition is divided into the following departments:
All departments of the Landesmuseum Mainz are accessible barrier-free via ramps, lifts and automatic doors. In addition, there are many and diverse offers for blind, visually impaired as well as for deaf and hearing-impaired visitors. (Photo: Inge Mizcka)
