Public Library -Anna Seghers - Available Resources
The basic task of the library is to provide materials for education, leisure and entertainment. The total resources of the Public library currently include around 220,000 items:
- Non-fiction and textbooks covering all areas of knowledge and interest
- Fiction ranging from the classics to comics
- Children and youth books
- Books on music, notes and CDs as well as CD-ROMs
- Language courses for Germans and foreigners
- Foreign language literature
- Games
- Newspapers and periodicals
- City maps
- Hiking maps
- Books on tape
- Books printed in large print
- Brochures offering information and solutions to many questions of everyday life.
The main library of the public library -Anna Seghers- located at the Bonifaziuszentrum near the central station is divided into the following parts:
- An adult library
- A children and youth library
- A music library
Electronic Catalogues (OPACs) allow a simple and quick search of all library resources. In the main library and the Gonsenheim district library, internet work stations are available as well.

Materials concerning current events and events of general interest can be found in the section "Interessant-Neu-Aktuell" (interesting-new-current).
Individuals entering the labour market or searching for employment can find relevant information in the section "Arbeit und Beruf" (labour and employment ). Among other information, this section offers vacancies advertised in newspapers, application assistance, presentation of vocational training options and assessments of various professions.
Through its five district libraries, the public library -Anna Seghers- reaches out to residents of the various districts of Mainz. If an item is not available in the district library, it can be requested from the main library. In the Gonsenheim district library, connected online to the main library, the complete resources of the public library -Anna Seghers- can be researched via the electronic catalogues.
All libraries are circulating libraries with all materials displayed on shelves allowing free access for users.
Tours:
Similar to the city library, the public library –Anna Seghers- offers tours that can be booked via telephone (12 26 59). For children starting at pre-school age, special tours have also been prepared.
