The Fastnachtsbrunnen or Carneval Fountain was built in 1967 by Blasius Spreng and is an eight-and-half meter/27-foot high Fool's Tower made of bronze. It is populated by some 200 symbols and fantasy figures of the Mainz Fastnacht, all of whom are also made of bronze.Many of these are somewhat grotesque, with caricature faces peering down at passersby.
