Relaxation. Experience nature and sport

Tips for after work and places for people who are looking for relaxation in town can be found in the green oases and the sports complexes – in the water, on the hillside, and in the forests in and around Mainz. Here you can find out what is possible.

Situated on the biggest river in Germany, the state capital invites visitors on romantic trips on the Rhine into the UNESCO World Heritage Site “Upper Middle Rhine Valley”, past castles, palaces and the Lorelei.

For active holiday makers, the Rhine Valley and the near-by hills of Rheinhessen provide a well-developed network of cycle paths, ranging from comfortable circular routes to demanding routes along the Rheinsteig or the new premium routes through the vineyards. The location at the confluence of the Rhine and the Main opens up magnificent, broad vistas on the banks of the Rhine and makes it possible to practice all kinds of water sports.
The city’s green oases are the City Park with its rose garden and old trees and the Maaraue peninsula with its splendid panoramic view of Mainz. When you walk along the Rhine, restaurants, cafés, beach bars and vintners’ booths entice you to enjoy a relaxed evening “Rheinhessen-style”, especially in the summer.
Mainz is a city of sports – particularly since 1. FSV Mainz 05 has been in the Bundesliga. Alongside the ever-present enthusiasm of the supporters of the team, Mainz is also a city of mass sports. From the Gutenberg Marathon in May, company runs and the Three Bridges Run at the St. John’s Night Festival to athletics, rowing, paddling or bicycle acrobatics. Not forgetting the discipline of wrestling: Mainz’s sportsmen perform at the highest level, are role models and ensure the continuous development of a new generation of sportsmen.
