Professional fire department
The Mainz Fire Department was founded on April 1, 1906, and today is a modern, efficient organization within the city administration. More than 230 full-time firefighters and other employees work at two fire stations to protect the population of Mainz.
The emergency services operate on a 24-hour basis with 35 functions at two fire stations. In addition to the regular guard departments, some emergency service officers also work in day or special services to take on tasks in various areas.
In the event of an emergency, the forces respond to a wide variety of incidents. The professional fire department also operates the Interim Integrated Control Center for Mainz at Fire Station 1. This is where fire and disaster response operations in the state capital are coordinated, and where initial alerts are issued to the other participating local authorities.
Away from the scene of operations, specialized departments—such as training and continuing education, preventive fire protection, operations management and planning, disaster and civil protection, and vehicle and equipment technology—ensure constant operational readiness. They work closely together to continuously develop personnel, technology, and operational concepts.
The Mainz Professional Fire Department thus combines operational effectiveness with a broad range of expertise—ensuring reliable hazard mitigation and safety in the state capital.
