The Mainz Fire Department consists of a professional fire department with two stations and eleven volunteer fire departments, each with its own youth and children’s fire brigade. Together, over 300 full-time and more than 400 volunteer firefighters ensure the safety of over 222,000 people in our city.

Our responsibilities range from firefighting and technical assistance to disaster response. We handle more than 4,000 calls annually, including fires, hazardous materials incidents, water rescues, and emergency assistance.

Another key focus is preventive fire safety—from advising on and inspecting construction projects to conducting hazard prevention inspections.

As Department 37, the Fire Department is part of the Mainz City Administration and is responsible for both the professional fire department and the volunteer fire departments within the city limits.
