Print demonstration at the Gutenberg printing press

Find out first-hand how printing took place at the time of Johannes Gutenberg.


Tue-Sat: on the hour from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. (except for 1 p.m.)
Sun: on the hour from 12 noon to 4 p.m.

Place: Gutenberg workshop, Museum basement

Movie screenings

Several times per day, the Gutenberg Museum screens a movie by the SWR about Gutenberg, the invention of letterpress printing, and the Gutenberg Museum.



20 minutes before the hour from 9:40 a.m. to 4:40 p.m. (except for 12:40 p.m.)

Public museum tours

The one-hour tour of the Gutenberg Museum includes a demonstration of the historic printing press and a stop at the original Gutenberg Bibles in the museum vault.

The tour is conducted by the tour guides of the City of Mainz.

Time: Saturdays, 11 a.m. and according to prior agreement

Cost: €12.00/Reduced €10.00 per person (plus entry fee)

Family Sunday

The exciting children's tour "Of dancing letters and coloured leaves" for children from 6 years of age and their parents is offered by a museum education specialist according to the age of the children. The mobile printing workshop in the Gutenberg-Museum allows children to print their own pictures.

Time: 3 p.m.

Meeting point: Museum cash desk, ground floor

Cost: Guided tour €2.00 and printing €2.00, reduced admission €3.50 for parents and accompanying relatives.
