Our concept

Variety of care forms and concepts

We offer a wide range of services for children aged eight weeks to 14 years. Most facilities combine a variety of childcare options under one roof.

  • Nursery and kindergarten
  • Kindergarten and after-school care
  • Other mixed-age groups

A variety of concepts and models are put into practice here:

  • Emmi Pikler's crib pedagogy
  • Intercultural learning
  • Movement-based daycare
  • Language development (see below)
  • Open concepts
  • Integrative work with disabled children

This broad spectrum also gives educators the opportunity to work in an environment that suits their personal inclinations, wishes, and abilities. The municipal daycare

centers are currently developing concepts for their work. The framework plans that have already been published can be found below as PDF documents.

Other initiatives for children and families in Mainz

Language support

Increasing language difficulties require special support. That is why the Kind und Sprache (Child and Language) network was founded in Mainz in January 2002. It was initiated by speech therapists, educators, pediatricians, ENT doctors, teachers, speech therapists, and other professionals. The aim of the network is to facilitate the exchange of experiences between local stakeholders and experts, to strengthen parental involvement, and to enhance the competence of educators in the field of language support in daycare centers.

The state law on the expansion of early support (2006) provides for a significant expansion of preschool language support and closer cooperation between daycare centers and elementary schools in Rhineland-Palatinate.

Free attendance at kindergarten

Since August 1, 2010, all children aged 2 and above are entitled to a free place at kindergarten until they start school. The Rhineland-Palatinate Child Day Care Act can be found on the website www.jugend.rlp.de (opens in a new tab). Parents pay for meals (lunch, afternoon snack).
