Medical care
Compared to those insured under statutory health insurance, individuals eligible for benefits under the Asylum Seekers Benefits Act (AsylbLG) have only limited entitlement to medical assistance.
A medical treatment certificate is issued by the social services office for this purpose. This must be presented to the doctor and serves as a cost commitment from the social services office to cover the costs of medical treatment for acute and pain treatment.
This medical treatment certificate is issued quarterly and is generally handed out to those entitled to benefits without being requested, provided that the eligibility requirements are met.
The office does not carry out a preliminary assessment of the need for medical treatment before issuing the medical treatment certificate.
Social benefits
Financial assistance under the AsylbLG is provided by the social services office once the person has been assigned to the initial reception center.
The entitlement to benefits cannot be quantified on a flat-rate basis, as it depends on various factors (accommodation in shared accommodation or own apartment, adult or child).
In addition to the standard rate, costs for the apartment or accommodation in shared accommodation and health insurance are covered.
Under certain conditions, benefits under the education and participation package may also be granted.
