Process structure and participation

The City Planning Office is in charge of the project to update the Integrated Development Concept for the City Center. The planning office Urbanista from Hamburg was commissioned to develop the concept.

Various stakeholders are involved in the process on multiple occasions. In addition to internal coordination rounds between the planning office and the city planning office, workshops with various specialist departments of the city of Mainz, politicians are also involved in the process.

The active participation of key players in inner city development and large sections of the Mainz population is equally important. Workshops enable city center stakeholders to contribute their expertise and experience with the city center to the development of the IEK. Citizens will initially have the opportunity to participate in the concept via an online dialogue. As the process progresses, face-to-face events will offer further opportunities for participation. One format will be specifically tailored to children and young people.

With input from all these different target groups and formats, a forward-looking concept for Mainz city center can be created.
