Update of the integrated development concept for Mainz city center

As part of the IEK update process, the final concept and list of measures were developed following an extensive process involving various forms of public participation, political representatives, city center stakeholders, and the administration. The results of this process were publicly exhibited at the Rheingoldhalle on January 27. The exhibited results are presented below:

The update of the Integrated Development Concept for the City Center is currently being worked on. The aim here is to review the existing fields of action from the 2015 IEK City Center and the projects still to be carried out in terms of their feasibility and relevance in today's context. New approaches and ideas are to be further developed while preserving existing advantages and potential. The aim is not to completely reinvent the development of Mainz's city center. Rather, the update of the IEK City Center is intended to bring together the existing concepts and plans (in particular the existing "IEK City Center"), taking into account current developments and today's social challenges, and to place them in a design and functional context. New ideas should also find their place here.

The Integrated Development Concept for the City Center (IEK City Center), which has been in place since 2015, defines the objectives and areas of action for strengthening and developing Mainz's city center and describes the projects and measures necessary to achieve this.

In 2022, an interim assessment was prepared following a comprehensive analysis of the status quo of all 84 measures of the IEK Innenstadt. This was presented to the city council in September 2022. At this meeting, it was also decided to continue the existing IEK Innenstadt.
