The Gutenberg Library

The Gutenberg Library is one of Germany's largest libraries specialized in the history of books, printing, and script. This includes the entire sector of book sciences and book design, printing and typography, as well as artistic graphic print techniques. The library contains about 94,000 titles from seven centuries and constitutes the heart of the exhibition activities of the Gutenberg Museum. At the same time, it is a reference and research library that can be used free of charge by all interested users.

The historical holdings can be researched worldwide on the online catalogue.

Last admission: 4:30 p.m.

Please note that there may be restrictions in the opening hours. For this reason, we ask you to announce your visit by mail or telephone.

Using the library

The library is equipped with a reading hall with 16 work stations, a microfiche reading device, and a copier/book scanner.

Please contact us in advance if you would like to work with the holdings of the Gutenberg Museum.

Research:The holdings can be researched on the Online catalog.

Book orders: Please order desired titles in advance where possible, either in writing, per telephone or via e-mail to prevent waiting times.
