Color system and grid
The color system
Printed publications from the various administrative departments are presented in different colors (administrative departments are not identical to departments). These department colors are available in the specified 100 percent and graduated tones as design elements. The color red HKS 13 is reserved for the Mainz city coat of arms. The only exception is the Mainz professional fire department. All selected colors can be reproduced using CMYK four-color printing. They can also be used as special colors in the HKS and Pantone systems.
For the website www.mainz.de, blue in gradations was chosen as the uniform base color, as the variety of topics here extends beyond the presentation of the administrative areas. The signal color red serves as the accent color.
The formats
For leaflets and brochures, the portrait format DIN-Lang, the formats DIN A4 and DIN A5 (also portrait format) and two special formats are used. Posters are produced in DIN A2, DIN A1 or DIN A0 portrait format.
Special regulations apply, for example, to the formats of advertisements, banners, and signage.
The grid
Information specifically for agencies, designers, and graphic designers:
The design grid is based on the metric system. Areas, images, and text columns are arranged in a millimeter grid. A square grid was chosen for cover pages, posters, etc., which can be applied to different sizes and formats. The uniform look of the publications was developed from this grid. This should be used consistently together with the logo, thus forming an essential part of the new corporate design of the state capital of Mainz.
