2025
I PRINT! Printer's marks since the age of Gutenberg (28.11.2025-22.2.2026)
Exhibition by the Gutenberg Museum in cooperation with Johannes Gutenberg University on the precursors of today's publishing logos—printer's marks.
2024
Moving Gutenberg - School competition
Even though the relocation of the exhibition has been delayed, the safe transport of all the treasures of the Gutenberg Museum has already been taken care of. After all, numerous moving boxes designed by students were submitted as part of an art competition for schoolchildren! Glittering Gutenbergs, heavy locks, and even the relief of the Roman emperor adorn the elaborately designed shoe boxes. The team at the print shop is delighted with the numerous competition entries.
Veronika Weingärtner: shape of color (25.05.2023-06.2024)
Veronika Weingärtner creates her prints using screen printing and monotype techniques or combinations of different printing techniques. The Mainz-based artist is not only interested in the finished print, but also in the printing process itself, which is why different layers of color remain visible in her works, as do used materials and found objects. The prints retain a playful lightness, not least because of their very strong colors.
2023
Hotspot Gutenberg Museum - High-profile visit to Rhineland-Palatinate (30.11.2022 to 4.06.2023)
In the 75 years since it was founded, the state of Rhineland-Palatinate has welcomed numerous national and international personalities as guests, who have taken the opportunity to visit the Gutenberg Museum. They documented their visit in the museum's guest book; this exhibition told the story behind the signatures.
Cut+Paste (23.2.22-12.3.23)
As part of our thematic area "Books and Printing before Gutenberg," we presented this display as part of our permanent exhibition. On display were initials from a 15th-century Mainz painting workshop, which had been cut out of a Bible manuscript. The search for clues to the "plundered" volume was documented in the cabinet exhibition.
2022
Our most beautiful...and the wine (25.01.2022-15.01.2023)
The series of presentations of treasures from the museum's depot continued with exhibits on the theme of wine. This cabinet exhibition covered a wide range of topics, from artistic perspectives to labels, songs to advertising posters.
Road to Nowhere (20.01.-28.08.2022)
An exhibition showcasing unique prints by Tobias Gellscheid, the former city printer of Mainz.

Notes for the world (16.07.-09.01.2022)
An exhibition on the history of musical notation to mark the 250th anniversary of the Mainz-based Schott music publishing house.
Ways of World Making (03.07.-28.11.2021)
The exhibition marking the 85th birthday of Mainz artist Lore Bert featured a gigantic paper installation and took visitors on a visual journey from the Orient to Op Art, from Bauhaus to the Biennale.

This exhibition showcased unique monuments of book art with works by British book artist William Morris to mark the 125th anniversary of the publication of "Kelmscott Chaucer."

In 2019, the Gutenberg Museum is opening this special exhibition to mark the centenary of the Bauhaus, which shines a spotlight on the printing workshop at the Bauhaus.
