The museum is open on all public holidays except December 24 and 25, December 31, and January 1. 

The museum is closed during Carnival (Saturday to Tuesday). This year, this period is February 14-17, 2026.

Reduced admission (with valid ID/proof): Students aged 19 and over, trainees, severely disabled persons (accompanying person free of charge), recipients of social benefits, seniors aged 63 and over, early retirees, persons performing youth and federal voluntary service (e.g., FSJ, FÖJ, FJD) or voluntary military service (FWD).

Free admission: Children up to 3 years of age, members of the Rheinisch-Naturforschende Gesellschaft e.V., the Internationale Gutenberg-Gesellschaft in Mainz e.V., the Förderverein Gutenberg e.V., the Freundeskreis Gutenberg, the German Museum Association, and ICOM, Visitors from Mainz's twin cities, holders of the MuseumsPASS Musées, the mainzcardplus, the Ferienkarte, the Juleica card, and the Ehrenamtskarte.

Take the public transport bus lines to the "Bauhofstraße" or "Schusterstraße" stop. From the stops, it is about a 5-minute walk to the museum.

The Gutenberg Museum MOVED is centrally located in Mainz city center. Parking spaces are available for a fee in the "Römerpassage," "Bleiche," "Rheinufer," "Am Brand," and "Rathaus-Rheingoldhalle" parking garages.

Take the public bus to the "Bauhofstraße" or "Schusterstraße" stop. From there, it is about a 5-minute walk to the museum.

Parking spaces are available for a fee in the "Am Brand" and "Rathaus-Rheingoldhalle" parking garages.

The Gutenberg Museum MOVED is wheelchair accessible.

Wheelchair users and guests with strollers can use the museum elevator. People with severe disabilities (GdB 50 or higher) are eligible for reduced admission. Free admission is available with an "B" entry in the ID card and for one accompanying person.

The print shop is located on the second floor of the Gutenberg Museum MOVED. The print shop team offers a wide range of educational programs. These include numerous special tours and workshops for adults, children, families, school classes, and daycare centers. Eating and drinking are not permitted in the exhibition rooms of the Gutenberg Museum. We ask for your understanding.

Photography for private purposes is permitted in the Gutenberg Museum. Flash photography and the use of tripods, selfie sticks, drones, or similar aids are not permitted. 

Photography and filming for commercial purposes or as part of daily news reporting requires prior consultation and written permission from the museum management. To do so, please download the attached form and send the completed form to our press office at presse.gmstadt.mainzde.

In the interest of everyone, we ask that you do not disturb or obstruct other visitors when taking photographs and that you respect their image rights when publishing your photos.

The cloakroom is located in the museum entrance foyer and is free of charge for all visitors. We kindly ask you to return your cloakroom token to the ticket office at the end of your visit. 

Please understand that we cannot accept any liability for items left in the cloakroom.

Visitors with strollers can visit the Gutenberg Museum without restriction.

Holders of the MuseumsPASS Musées receive free admission. The MuseumsPASS is also available at the ticket office of the Gutenberg Museum.

The Gutenberg Shop is located in the black pavilions on the museum forecourt. You can order coffee and cake to take away in the Gutenberg Foundation café.

The Gutenberg Museum's print shop offers a wide range of educational activities for school classes, daycare centers, teachers, and educators.

Unfortunately, animals are not permitted in the museum. Guide dogs and assistance dogs with identification are exempt from this rule. We apologize for any inconvenience.
