Dirt and pollutants that are "fished out" during wastewater treatment do not simply disappear into thin air. The larger items (wet wipes, etc.) are collected by a waste disposal company and paid for accordingly. The microscopic items are mostly turned into sewage sludge, which in turn has to
be incinerated. This also costs money (see Investments).

Around 200 highly motivated women and men take care of wastewater treatment in Mainz. Day after day! Week after week! Year after year! Some of them even
work around the clock! In return, they receive a fair and reasonable wage.

Our vehicle fleet consists not only of "normal" cars, vans, and trucks, but also of special vehicles. These are unique, custom-built vehicles designed specifically for sewer and gully cleaning. And they are worth up to €940,000 each.

Spread across the entire city, they ensure that wastewater actually ends up where it should – at the central sewage treatment plant in Mainz-Mombach.
