Current sewer work
The Mainz sewer network is around 800 kilometers long. And we make sure that there are no leaks, blockages, or overflows anywhere. That's why we're currently working here—with possible consequences for (road) traffic. Sorry if it takes a little longer than usual, but we'll hurry up—promise!
Mainz-Neustadt - Feldbergplatz
In detail:
Decades of use have caused severe erosion in the sewer. This is completely normal, as sewers are used every day. That is why we inspect them at regular intervals with a camera. And the images have shown that around 210 meters need to be replaced.
Construction work was actually supposed to begin in early 2018, but the January floods on the Rhine caused the groundwater level to rise so high that the excavation pit would have filled with water. In the meantime, everything has calmed down again, the groundwater level has dropped to normal, and work has been able to begin.
And there is more good news: car traffic will only be minimally affected because most of the work is taking place directly on Feldbergplatz.
