The election to the 19th state parliament of Rhineland-Palatinate will take place on March 22, 2026.
On March 22, 2026, elections for the 19th Rhineland-Palatinate state parliament will take place. The city of Mainz is divided into three constituencies for the state elections (constituency 27 – Mainz I, constituency 28 – Mainz II, and constituency 29 – Mainz III).
This means that three constituency candidates from the Mainz constituencies will be elected directly to the state parliament.

Who can vote?
All Germans within the meaning of Article 116 (1) of the Basic Law who, on election day , 1. have reached the age of 18, 2. have had a residence in the state of Rhineland-Palatinate for at least three months, or, if they have several residences, have their main residence or otherwise usually reside there, 3. are not excluded from voting under Section 3 of the State Election Law, are eligible to vote.
Election notification
Eligible voters will receive a notification of election by March 1, 2026, stating the polling station. The notification of election confirms registration in the electoral roll. The notification of election also serves as an application for postal voting.
Anyone who has not received a voter notification by March 1, 2026, should contact the Citizens' Office, Postal Voting Office, Stadthaus Große Bleiche 46, or call 06131 12-1500.
Electoral roll
Provided that authorization to view the register is proven, the electoral register for your own voting district can be viewed at the postal voting office during the period from March 2, 2026, to March 6, 2026, at the following times:
Monday and Wednesday, 8 a.m. to 6 p.m.
Tuesday and Thursday, 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Friday, 8 a.m. to 1 p.m.
Only those who are registered in the electoral register or have a polling card can vote.
Those who are registered in the electoral register can only vote in the electoral district in which they are listed.
Those who have a polling card can vote in the constituency in which the polling card was issued
by casting their vote in any polling district within that constituency or
by postal vote.
The deadline for registration in the electoral register is the 42nd day before the election: February 8, 2026.
How do you vote?
Every eligible voter has two votes: one vote for the election of the representative of their constituency and one vote for the election of a state list.
Where do you vote?
Voting at the polling station is possible on March 22, 2026, from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m.
Your voter registration card will show the address of the building where your polling station is located. The number of your voting district and the number under which you are registered in the electoral roll are also printed on the card.
As a rule, your voter registration card is sufficient proof of identity at the polling station. Upon request, voters must provide proof of identity. Please have a valid ID card or passport ready.
Postal voting, postal voting office (opening hours)
If you are unable to visit the polling station on election Sunday, you can also cast your vote by postal ballot at the postal ballot office of the city of Mainz or have the postal ballot documents sent to you.
Postal voting documents (consisting of a polling card, information sheet, ballot paper, and envelopes) can be requested immediately:

It is not permitted to request postal voting documents by telephone. The back of the election notification can be used to submit the request.
Please send the completed and signed application in a stamped envelope to the election office.
Applications may only be submitted and documents received on behalf of other persons if authorized to do so by written power of attorney.
Opening hours postal voting office
From February 17, 2026, the postal voting office will be located at Stadthaus Große Bleiche 46, Briefwahlbüro, Erdgeschoss, 55116 Mainz, and will be open at the following times:
Monday and Wednesday, 8 a.m. to 6 p.m.
Tuesday and Thursday, 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Friday, 8 a.m. to 1 p.m.
On Friday, March 6, the postal voting office will be open until 6 p.m. and on Friday, March 20, until 3 p.m.
On the two Saturdays, March 7 and March 21, 2026, it will be possible to visit the postal voting office between 8 a.m. and 12 p.m. to have replacement documents issued for postal voting documents that have not yet arrived or have been lost.
If you apply in person, please bring your election notification and valid ID card or passport!
Applications received after 3 p.m. on March 20, 2026, will not be considered.
So make sure you put your postal ballot in the mailbox in good time!

All election committee members must be eligible to vote in Mainz.
It is not necessary to be present at the polling station for the entire day, as the election committee organizes its own breaks. You will receive a refreshment allowance of €40 for your commitment.
