Whether it's blue skies and sunshine or rather gloomy weather—head to the banks of the Rhine! Refreshments are part of a successful day by the river. We'll tell you where to find a refreshing beer, fine wines, a fruity cocktail, or delicious ice cream between the two Mainz railway bridges along the Rhine.

At kilometer 500 of the Rhine, a striking building rises up at the customs port: the Kunsthalle. Why not take a look at the current exhibition? Afterwards, treat yourself to a delicious piece of cake and a hot coffee at the Liesbeth Hofbäckerei bakery.

The golden "Pandion Doxx" building is definitely an eye-catcher. The Zollhafen-Bistro goldmarie mainz attracts visitors with its unique concept. Quality, flavor, and shared enjoyment are the top priorities here. At Hafen Eden, you can experience the maritime atmosphere up close. The dishes and drinks on the menu, with their Italian twist, are absolutely delicious.

Behind the customs port area, things are more relaxed. At Feldbergplatz, guests can enjoy undisturbed views of the Rhine and Petersaue from the small outdoor area in front of the old caponier. A cool drink makes the break perfect.

The Mainz Castle Beer Garden offers a taste of home. Here you can enjoy freshly tapped beer and the best Rhine-Hessian wines accompanied by sophisticated regional delicacies from the kitchen. In addition, there is excellent entertainment with unusual events, lively dance nights, and musical highlights.

At the Mainz State Parliament, the dining room invites you to linger. Enjoy a hearty breakfast, a varied lunch menu, a delicious cup of coffee and a slice of cake—freshly baked in our own pastry shop—or a fine glass of wine. When the weather is nice, you can comfortably take a break on the sun-drenched terrace.

Once again this summer, a beach vibe is taking over the banks of the Main in Mainz. Starting in May, deck chairs, hammocks, and Caribbean-style umbrellas will invite visitors to relax at Mainzstrand, near the Theodor-Heuss-Brücke. Here, day-trippers can enjoy cocktails, play beach volleyball, or simply unwind after a long day at work. A variety of events also await beachgoers.

You can experience the Mainz way of life every first Tuesday of the month around the fountain in front of the Hilton Hotel. On those days, the Weinsalon Rheinhessen invites young winemakers from Rheinhessen to this popular after-work gathering featuring music and delicious wines.

The Hilton Hotel’s large summer terrace offers shaded seating for a stylish break along the banks of the Rhine. As always, delicious dishes, excellent wines, and refreshing drinks are available here.

At Burgerheart, located near the Rheingoldhalle, guests can enjoy views across the water from two different levels.

If you fancy an ice cream, stop at the KD ticket office near Mainz City Hall or turn off at Fischtorplatz towards the cathedral and visit one of the ice cream parlors in Mainz city center.

In addition, the Mainz winemakers’ wine stand will be back on the banks of the Rhine every weekend through October. Every Saturday, a Mainz winemaker will be serving wine at Fischtorplatz.

The terrace of the Hyatt Biergarten Hafenbar at the end of Stresemann-Ufer offers a cozy, shaded spot by the water. Visitors to the beer garden can enjoy refreshing drinks and light snacks while looking out over the Rhine from the terrace.

On the way toward Winterhafen, you can stop once more. This is where the Neustadt ice cream shop “N’Eis” has its second location. The historic weir house offers unique ice cream flavors.

For those who want to sit in the sun as long as possible in the evenings, we recommend the Mole: Biergarten at Winterhafen. Not far from the old swing bridge, sun-seeking guests can enjoy the spring and summer hours starting in mid-April in a modern, Mediterranean setting, sipping cool drinks and savoring reimagined culinary classics while taking in the view of the water.

Just before the railroad bridge (south), the boathouse welcomes guests. With your feet in the grass and a view of the river and the floodplain, you can end your day on the Rhine in a peaceful and cozy atmosphere, accompanied by relaxing music.
