The Mainz Carnival Association (MCV) is committed to ensuring that no plastic confetti is thrown. The plastic particles are very difficult to remove from the streets afterwards.

Outer packaging of throwing material may no longer be thrown from the floats onto the street. The clubs participating in the street carnival undertake to remove the resulting waste from the floats and dispose of it separately on their own club premises.

In general, it is desirable not to take outer packaging onto the floats in the first place.

Quality over quantity. Many of the sweets caught end up in the trash after the parade. Therefore, it is more sustainable and reduces waste to throw fewer items and to ensure that the items thrown are actually caught. In areas where spectators show little interest in the items thrown, fewer items should be thrown than in areas with many families and children.

In the coming years, alternative throwing material will be used, such as peanuts in shells and raisins in cardboard boxes.
