Action Day for Accessible Mobility
Wednesday, September 16, 2026 | 12:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. | Gutenbergplatz
“Mobility for All” by Mainzer Mobilität: Hands-on public transit activities, personal experiences, and discussion
At the Action Day for Accessible Mobility, people with and without disabilities are invited to learn more, share experiences, and gain insight into different perspectives.
Hands-on exercises and helpful tips will demonstrate what matters most when getting around with a wheelchair, walker, or other mobility aids. At the same time, you can experience firsthand what it’s like to use public transportation with a disability, such as in a wheelchair or while wearing a blindfold.
In addition, you can talk with our drivers, experts, and representatives from various organizations. The Mainz Police Department will also be on site with its safety vehicle and counseling services.
Participation is free of charge.
City Tour: “Stories Among the Cobblestones”

Sharks, Secret Traffic Light Buttons, and Stumbling Stones—The Invisible Mainz
What do sharks, stumbling stones, and street names have in common with traffic planning?
“Stories Among the Cobblestones” is not a traditional city tour.
It’s a journey of discovery through the other, often invisible side of Mainz. Between Domplatz, Ludwigstraße, and Große Langgasse, we’ll explore the stories hidden behind bollards, guide strips, street names, traffic lights, trash cans, and cobblestones.
In the process, city history, traffic planning, the culture of remembrance, and a behind-the-scenes look at municipal planning come together to create an entertaining walk full of surprising “aha” moments. A tour for everyone who already knows Mainz—yet still wants to rediscover it.
