KESch & KliK

Communicating the basic idea of climate protection to children and young people - that's what KESch & KliK is all about. Children and young people should take the topics of environmental and climate protection, energy use, resource conservation, healthy eating, mobility and global responsibility home with them.

Schools & daycare centers wanted to participate!

KESch (climate protection through energy saving in schools) and KliK (climate protection through energy saving in daycare centers) are energy saving incentive programs in Mainz schools and kindergartens that have been successfully established for years.

Would you like to achieve more in terms of sustainability at your school or daycare center? Would you like to get your colleagues more involved? Would you like to better reach children, young people, and parents and encourage them to participate?
Then take part in KESch or KliK!

What's in it for you?

Participation is voluntary for everyone and will be rewarded! Schools and daycare centers are free to use the amount they receive for their commitment as they see fit. The amount paid out depends on the activities carried out, which are evaluated using a feedback form (activity report) and assessed by a jury.

  • If you decide to participate, you have taken the first step toward placing the topic of climate protection and sustainability on the agenda at your institution!
  • You actively involve your colleagues, especially their creative ideas.
  • With a project team, the "work" is shared among several people.
  • Communication and information are guaranteed, ensuring the continuity of your efforts.
  • You will receive support from the KESch&KliK project team (see below) and have access to many helpful materials.
  • You become part of a great network!
  • Whether it's a group outing, a nice party, or a new purchase—the funds paid out are at your disposal!

And who will join in?

Currently, 18 schools (of all types) and 14 daycare centers are participating. So there is still room for improvement.

Background

The issue of climate protection and global responsibility, as well as the urgency to act, has reached the heart of society, the people, and urban policy. Numerous decisions made by Mainz city politicians, ranging from the 100% Climate Protection Master Plan, Climate Emergency, Climate-Neutral City Administration to the Strategy for Adapting to Climate Change, prove this. The city of Mainz has committed itself to implementing the Global Sustainability Goals (the so-called SDGs) of Agenda 2030 and reducing greenhouse gas emissions.

And what do schools and daycare centers have to do with it?

The fact is that when you look at the energy consumption of public buildings, it is striking that a high proportion is accounted for by schools and kindergartens. In purely numerical terms, these make up the largest share of municipal properties. In contrast to other municipal buildings, however, it is hardly possible for the city administration to exert any direct influence on the users (children and young people, teachers, caregivers).
