St. Antonius - Gothic relics in Mainz
St. Antonius, built by the Antonites in 1331 and taken over by the Poor Clares in 1620, was also given the name "Armklaren" by the Poor Clares.
The Antoniuskirche is home to the only surviving Gothic ceiling paintings in Mainz; they were discovered in 1948. The spacious nuns' gallery houses an organ that is used for teaching by the neighboring Institute for Church Music. A three-seater bench and a wall cupboard from the Gothic period have been preserved in the choir.
