Data processing and your rights in the case of video surveillance
Information from the City of Mainz in accordance with Art. 13 of the General Data Protection Regulation.
Purpose and legal basis of data processing
We conduct video surveillance in publicly accessible areas within the scope of Section 21 of the State Data Protection Act for the following purposes:
- to perform a task in the public interest or in the exercise of official authority,
- to exercise domiciliary rights, or
- otherwise to protect property or possessions or to control access authorizations.
Processing for other purposes is only permitted if this is necessary to avert dangers to public safety or to prosecute criminal offenses, or if this is regulated by law. These video measures are only carried out if there are no indications that they conflict with the overriding interests of the persons concerned that are worthy of protection.
Saving the video recordings
When storing video recordings, which may be carried out in individual cases, the storage period shall not exceed two months, unless this is necessary for the prosecution of criminal offenses, the assertion of legal claims, or due to conflicting interests of data subjects that are worthy of protection, in particular to remedy an existing lack of evidence. Until the data is separated, the processing of personal data within the meaning of Article 18 of the General Data Protection Regulation shall be restricted.
