The Mainz Library Association (MBG) is committed to preserving and promoting the libraries of the state capital Mainz, the Scientific City Library, and the Anna Seghers Public Library.

In order to secure their importance and improve their literary offerings, as well as to support their publications and events, committed citizens of Mainz founded the MBG in 1994. Through targeted public relations work, the association seeks to permanently anchor the municipal library system in the consciousness of Mainz residents and also offers its own events (readings – "Treffpunkt Stadtbibliothek" [City Library Meeting Place]), excursions, and publications.
