A step through history
The cemetery in Marienborn
Visitors to the cemetery in Marienborn can enter in a very special way. One of the entrances is formed by an archway that was originally part of a priest's house and was destroyed in 1793 during an attack on Mainz by the French army. A step through history, if you will. But the cemetery is also historic in general. Built when the Marienborn churchyard reached capacity, it was expanded at the end of the 19th century. The chapel, also built at that time, has been replaced since 2006 by a modern, light-flooded funeral hall.
