From 2023: Burial fees to fall
Infrastructure, energy, personnel, equipment, machinery, and, of course, the grave site itself: there are clear regulations governing what must and may be paid for with funeral fees. Public green spaces are not included. Local authorities must find other ways of paying for these. In Mainz, these funds will be increased in the future. This means that most funeral fees can be reduced from January 1, 2023.
Special case of mourning halls
The fact that the reduction could not be higher, and that some types of funeral have even become more expensive, is due to general cost increases. Almost everything has become and continues to become more expensive, especially fuel and energy. The funeral hall fee is a special case, as it needs to be increased significantly. On the one hand, because the funds for public green spaces cannot be used for this purpose. On the other hand, because the number of users is declining. This would have led to an increase in fees even if costs had remained the same.
Worth knowing: Public green spaces
This refers to the part of the plant world that gives many cemeteries their characteristic park-like appearance but has nothing to do with the final resting place. Here, cities and municipalities must find other ways of paying, says the legislator. It does not specify a concrete sum. All it provides is a legal framework. Due to increased trade tax revenues and the resulting significantly improved financial situation, the state capital of Mainz can now make full use of this framework for the first time.
