To keep things running smoothly in the future
Defective gully boxes are repaired on the Rhine axis
They primarily ensure that surface water can drain away without any problems, but also that not everything that is washed through the streets when it rains ends up in the sewer: the so-called gully covers. Since the beginning of May, 14 of these have been repaired or replaced on the Rhine axis between Obere Austraße (Rheinallee, Schott entrance) and the beginning of Wormser Straße because they are either old or have been damaged by tree roots, for example. The result: during heavy rain, the water no longer drains away, but collects on the street or finds other ways to escape.
The company commissioned by Mainz Public Utilities estimates that, depending on the type of damage, each catch basin will take three to seven days to repair, meaning that the entire construction project will take several months to complete. During this time, traffic will have to be diverted around the catch basins that are currently being worked on.
