Under the motto “Let’s Talk Together! – Your Questions About the Project,” the State Capital of Mainz would like to continue its dialogue with residents, citizens, supporters, and interested parties. In addition to a brief report on the current construction work on-site, the current status of the plans will be explained. However, the main focus of the event will be an open Q&A session, during which all citizens and interested parties will have the opportunity to ask questions and offer suggestions to city officials and subject matter experts. 

During this session, Mayor Nino Haase, Ludwig Holle (Director of Public Works for the State Capital of Mainz), Dr. Ulf Sölter (Director of the Gutenberg Museum), and other members of the planning and museum teams will be available to answer your questions.

Background

The Gutenberg Museum, located in the heart of Mainz, has always been—and remains today—a cornerstone of the city’s cultural landscape and a social hub of the state capital. As the world’s oldest printing museum, it has been taking visitors from countless countries on a journey through the “Gutenberg Galaxy” for more than 100 years, conveying Gutenberg’s legacy authentically and in a variety of ways. To continue fulfilling this mission in the future, the museum requires a structural and programmatic realignment.

Exhibitions at the Gutenberg Museum have been temporarily suspended at the Liebfrauenplatz location and have successfully resumed at an interim exhibition site in the Natural History Museum on Reichklarastraße. Before the new building can be constructed at Liebfrauenplatz, the “Schellbau” was demolished. Once the shoring has been erected, archaeological investigations must still be carried out before construction can begin. 

In addition to a new building envelope, the Gutenberg Museum will also feature a new exhibition design in the future.
