Disposal at used clothing drop-off bins is currently at a standstill

Many residents of Mainz had already noticed it last week: the used-clothing collection bins throughout the city were overflowing.

Next to the containers are numerous bags of clothing that were not picked up. This is due to staff shortages at the Mainz and Mainz-Bingen Municipal Waste Management Authority (KAW) resulting from a massive wave of sick leave—particularly among drivers—which also coincides with the current vacation season. For the time being, therefore, regular trash collection routes for curbside waste removal take higher priority.

KAW therefore asks that you refrain from leaving bags of used clothing in front of the already overflowing containers and postpone the disposal of used textiles until a later date, when collection routes resume their regular schedule. KAW thanks you for your understanding.

In this context, please note that heavily worn and soiled clothing can still be disposed of in the residual waste.
