31,000 euros for Mainz Daycare Centers: "Gewinnsparen" Makes Children's Wishes Come True

Great news for the municipal daycare centers in Mainz: The Gewinnsparverein der Sparda-Bank Südwest e.V. has donated 31,000 euros to the city. The 61 municipal daycare centers, which care for a total of 4,785 children as of June 2026, will each receive 500 euros to fulfill a special wish.

The donation was presented to the mayor of Mainz during a check-presentation ceremony. It is funded by the Gewinnsparverein, which has been combining saving, winning, and charitable engagement for nearly 75 years.

Mayor Nino Haase expressed his gratitude for the commitment: “A good education begins in daycare centers.” With its generous donation, the Gewinnsparverein der Sparda-Bank Südwest e.V. is making it possible to offer additional programs that enrich the children’s daily lives and provide them with valuable experiences. This is a wonderful example of civic engagement that deserves our support.”

Among other things, the funds will allow the centers to finance early music education programs, theater visits, field trips to museums and zoos, and physical activity and sports projects. This gives the daycare centers additional opportunities to shape their educational work.

Jana Schmöller, Commissioner for Social Affairs, Children, Youth, and Health: “Educational projects create experiences that stay with children for a long time. Whether it’s a trip to the theater, early music education, or a visit to a museum—such activities promote children’s development and enrich daily life in our daycare centers. The donation opens up valuable additional opportunities for our facilities to do just that.”

The principle is simple: A one-euro entry fee per ticket offers the chance to win attractive prizes. In the upcoming August drawing, prizes include a camper worth nearly 70,000 euros, along with other non-cash prizes and cash prizes, including a grand prize of 25,000 euros. At the same time, 25 cents from each ticket goes toward social projects.

“Great things start small—every euro and every ticket counts and makes this wonderful commitment possible in the first place,” says Andreas Manthe of the Gewinnsparverein der Sparda-Bank Südwest e.V. “We thank all members who make such donations possible.”

The current grant amount is equivalent to 124,000 tickets. This demonstrates once again that even small contributions can make a big difference—in this case, for the children in Mainz.
