At the German Track and Field Championships in Bochum, two athletes from USC Mainz secured the top spot on the podium and won the gold medal—a “place in the sun” that was nothing short of “sensational.” 

Julian Weber emphatically reaffirmed his national dominance in the German javelin throw. With a throw of 82.60 meters right at the start of the competition, he quickly put his opponents out of contention despite difficult wind conditions—and thus claimed what is now the sixth title in his highly successful career. Niklas Kaul (71.64 m) also finished in 8th place in the competition, though he withdrew early to conserve energy for the decathlon. 

Judith Bilepo Mokobe of USC Mainz created a major sensation on the tartan track as she sprinted to the 200-meter championship title. The 19-year-old up-and-coming athlete and college student was competing in the German Senior Championships for the very first time—and, with a personal best of 22.78 seconds and a magnificent performance, she clearly left renowned competitors like Sophia Junk (LG Rhein-Wied) in her wake. At the same time, she also met the direct qualifying standard for the European Championships—a perfect weekend.
