Rasselbande daycare center resumes regular operations

On Friday, March 6, 2026, the Rasselbande daycare center (Hartenberg/Münchfeld) was closed as a precautionary measure after an unknown object was found on the outdoor area of the daycare center. The outdoor area can now be used again without restrictions. Daycare operations will continue as normal from Tuesday, March 10, 2026.

After the discovery during a playground inspection, the affected area was cordoned off and the object was initially examined by the police with a sniffer dog. As it could not be clearly identified, the explosive ordnance disposal service of the state of Rhineland-Palatinate was called in. During its examination on March 6, 2026, it was determined that the object was the base of a bomb from World War II. The find was disposed of properly. The explosive ordnance disposal service informed the city of Mainz today that there was no danger at any time, as the bomb base was a harmless piece of metal. Further investigation of the outdoor area is not necessary. The outdoor area of the Rasselbande daycare center can therefore be used again without restriction and without danger. The daycare center will resume normal operations on Tuesday, March 10, 2026.
