State capital Mainz calls for participation in Earth Hour

The state capital of Mainz is once again taking part in this year's "Earth Hour", following the call of the environmental foundation WWF Germany to set a visible example for climate protection and social cohesion.

During “Earth Hour,” people, cities, and businesses are committed to protecting our natural resources and will turn off their lights for one hour worldwide on Saturday, March 28, at 8:30 p.m., under the motto “We’re turning it off.” Well-known buildings will then once again be shrouded in symbolic darkness, including landmarks such as the Brandenburg Gate in Berlin and Mainz Cathedral.

Janina Steinkrüger, Head of the Environment Department: “Earth Hour reminds us of how much we can do together for our planet. I cordially invite all residents of Mainz to join in and turn off the lights for this hour to send a visible signal for climate and environmental protection.”
