New digital maps for Mainz: City modernizes geodata platform

The state capital of Mainz has launched the relaunch of its digital geodata platform. The project will fundamentally modernize the existing WebGIS and adapt it to current technical requirements.

The state capital of Mainz, in collaboration with its specialist planners at GeoMarketing & GIS Solutions and Services GmbH and accellonet GmbH, is modernizing its digital spatial data infrastructure and launching a revamped version of its WebGIS. This platform has been providing maps and spatial information for many years and is one of the most widely used information resources of the City of Mainz, particularly for topics such as transportation, urban planning, and the environment. The new platform will enable significantly improved use of geodata in the future—for both citizens and administrative staff. With the project launch this week, the City of Mainz, together with its implementation partners Esri Deutschland GmbH and VertiGIS GmbH, has laid the foundation for the modernization of the geodata platform.

“Building a modern geodata infrastructure is the foundation for our city’s digital twin. By systematically collecting, linking, and making geodata analyzable, we are creating the basis for better planning decisions—for example, in the areas of transportation, climate, or social infrastructure. The relaunch of our WebGIS is thus a key step toward intelligently managed and resilient urban development,” explains Mayor Nino Haase.

“Geodata management is a key driver of efficiency and innovation. Together with Esri, VertiGIS is supporting the City of Mainz in implementing an innovative geodata platform that strengthens modern administrative processes and lays the foundation for future-proof, digital services,” says Robert Mollwo, Head of Sales Germany, VertiGIS GmbH.

“The state capital of Mainz demonstrates how modern administration works today: consistently cloud-based and networked. With ArcGIS Online as the foundation, we are helping the city build a future-proof geodata infrastructure while making collaboration across departments easier than ever before. Geodata is thus made available wherever it is needed—for the administration and residents alike,” says Lea Hemetsberger, Head of Sales for Local Governments, Esri Deutschland GmbH.
