#WählenGehen - Thematic table in the public library - Anna Seghers

The Anna Seghers Public Library is taking part in the "Vote - for a strong democracy" campaign organized by the German Library Association (Deutscher Bibliotheksverband e.V.). The aim of the initiative is to jointly send a clear signal for democracy, freedom of information and political education and to encourage citizens to find out about the elections in their local libraries.

In March 2026, the public library will therefore present a themed book table with a selection of media on the topics of democracy, Europe, elections, and fundamental rights. The titles compiled here offer guidance, background knowledge, and different perspectives on current social and political issues.

As public educational institutions, libraries are central points of contact for forming opinions and acquiring knowledge. They thus play an important role in a democratic society. Based on freedom of expression and information, they guarantee free access to information and ensure a reliable, independent supply of information.

In view of the increasing flood of information and growing disinformation—for example, through the rather uncritical dissemination of AI-generated content—the promotion of media and information literacy is becoming increasingly important. Libraries make an important contribution to this by helping people to critically evaluate news, classify sources, and recognize possible misinformation, as well as by providing citizens with information.

With its themed book table, the Anna Seghers Public Library underscores its role as a place of information and education and as a reliable partner in matters of democratic participation.
