District Heating Pipes: Lane Closure at An der Goldgrube
The civil engineering work to install district heating pipes on Freiligrathstraße in Mainz’s Oberstadt district is largely complete.
Starting Monday, September 14, 2026, the construction site will now move to An der Goldgrube Street (near house numbers 1–5). Lanes, parking lanes, and the sidewalk and bike path will be closed in sections. In addition, a one-way traffic system will be implemented in the direction of Weisenau.
Motorized private vehicles traveling toward Weisenau will be routed past the construction site in a single lane. Traffic traveling in the opposite direction will be diverted via Freiligrathstraße and Am Fort Elisabeth. Pedestrians and cyclists will be able to pass through the construction site. Work is expected to continue until October 23, 2026.
The lane heading toward Bretzenheim is closed near the entrance to Unimedizin. Motorized private vehicles and bicycles will be routed past the construction site via a mobile traffic light system. Pedestrians will be directed to use the opposite side of the street.
This measure is expected to end on October 2, 2026.
