The 2026 "Summer of Reading" Finale at the Public Library, Featuring an Awards Ceremony
In 2026, the Anna Seghers Public Library once again successfully participated in the Rhineland-Palatinate Summer of Reading. From June 15 to August 15, children and teenagers had the opportunity to give free rein to their love of reading and take part in the annual statewide reading event.
Once again in 2026, numerous children and teens who love to read took part in the “Summer of Reading” program at the Anna Seghers Public Library and together read an impressive total of well over 1,700 books. A total of 579 children signed up for the “Summer of Reading” this year, enchanting the library staff with their stories about their favorite books.
With the “Rhineland-Palatinate Summer Reading Program,” the State Library Center has launched an enormously important initiative to promote a culture of reading among children and teens. The Public Library is proud to be part of this initiative. Every year, the Reading Summer offers many exciting and entertaining books for children and young people, thereby fostering their love of reading.
The Anna Seghers Public Library would like to extend its heartfelt thanks to everyone whose enthusiasm for reading helped make this summer’s Reading Summer a success.
On September 7, the grand closing event took place, during which the lucky winners of the internal “Summer of Reading” prize drawing were rewarded for their enthusiasm for reading. The prizes were presented by Ata Delbasteh, Head of the Department of Culture; Dr. Janin Aadam and Denise Cordes, co-chairs of the Mainz Library Society; and Dr. Stephan Fliedner, Director of Culture and Libraries.
The Public Library is already looking forward to the next Reading Summer and many more shared moments of reading!
