The "Social Space Analysis 2023" is the fifth update. It includes several new features in terms of indicators. For example, additional household types were evaluated in analogy to the housing market report. Furthermore, the age groups were revised and additionally taken into account.

In addition to data and analyses on land use, demographics, and household structure, the Social Space Analysis analyzes the fields of employment and income security, child and youth welfare, education, and housing. It presents innovations in the indicators and explains the methodological basis of its data collection, such as the different spatial levels of the city as a whole, city districts (15), boroughs (65), and program areas of the Social City.

It also presents the results in the form of district profiles for the areas of the Social City/Social Cohesion: according to higher burdens, slightly above-average burdens, and for the areas of the Social City. The latter still have negative index values, but – and this is the
encouraging aspect – with a positive trend.

In conclusion, the "Social Space Analysis 2023" differentiates between four types of urban districts:

• Coherent urban districts with very high/high levels of stress,
• isolated urban districts with high levels of stress,
• districts with certain levels of stress, and
• districts without any particular need for intervention.

• Starter households: Single-person and two-person households with a
  head of household under the age of 25
• Single-person households of middle age (between 25 and under
  65)
• Middle-aged couple households (between 25 and 65 years of age), both
  with and without children
• One- and two-person households with a head of household
  of senior age (65 to under 80) and one- and two-person
  households with a very elderly head of household
  (over 80)
• Multi-person households that cannot be classified under any
  of the other household types

• Proportion of children and adolescents (0 to under 15 years of age; previously: 0 to under 18 years of age)
• Proportion of working-age population (15 to under 65 years; previously: 18 to under 60 years)
• Proportion of seniors (65 years and older; previously: 60 years and older)

Social space analyses enable politicians and administrators to respond appropriately to needs on the basis of comprehensive data and differentiated analyses. The aim is to counteract problematic social developments at an early stage and in a targeted manner. Social space analyses are important tools for municipal social planning because they reveal which
urban districts are characterized by increased social disadvantage. This makes it clear which areas have a greater need for support. In addition, they monitor developments.
