Open Monument Day
Open Monument Day takes place annually during the second week of September. It offers interested residents the opportunity to explore the historic landmarks of the state capital, Mainz, as part of a diverse program.

Open Sesame: Visitors Discover the Unknown
Every year, more than 5,000 historic sites across Germany open their doors for the country’s largest cultural event. Young and old, experts and laypeople, families and individuals alike gain access to interiors that are otherwise off-limits. Why not explore a few buildings yourself on Heritage Day? After all, every historic site is a true treasure trove of knowledge and holds its very own secrets.
Private monument owners, full-time and volunteer monument conservators, and associations all contribute to Heritage Day. The nationwide events are coordinated by the German Foundation for Monument Protection.
