The southwestern part of Mainz's Neustadt district is particularly significant. On the one hand, this is due to the main railway station and station square, which often represent the first point of contact with the city of Mainz for many visitors and also serve as the gateway to the city center and a central distribution hub to the various districts of Mainz for many Mainz residents. On the other hand, it is due to the Boppstraße business district, which is the center of Mainz's Neustadt district.

In this part of Mainz-Neustadt, the design and functionality of the area around the train station and Boppstraße is a recurring topic of discussion. These areas are also highlighted as projects or even key projects in the IEK Mainz-Neustadt. However, there is also a need for further action in this area, such as the design of Bonifaziusstraße as an important entrance to the Neustadt district.

In order to bring the individual projects and fields of action into an urban planning context, a framework plan should be developed in which the general conditions, restrictions, and objectives for the area are presented. The focus here is particularly on public space.

The framework plan is not intended to replace existing concepts and plans for this sub-area, but rather to summarize and supplement them.

The current draft of the urban development framework plan "Southern Neustadt – Boppstraße / Main Station area" was noted by the municipal committees in September 2016.

On this basis, the public is now to be involved at an early stage. A participation event will be held for this purpose. At this event, the draft urban development framework plan "Southern Neustadt – Boppstraße / Main Station area" will be presented by the administration and the public will have the opportunity to discuss it.
