200 years of Rheinhessen. Women from Mainz in the Grand Duchy of Hesse-Darmstadt

With the brochure "... or Darmstadt. Mainz Women and the Grand Duchy of Hesse-Darmstadt", the women's office of the state capital Mainz wants to remind us how influential the residential city of Darmstadt was for Mainz women and their women's associations from 1816 onwards.

200 years of Rheinhessen

In 2016, no one here can ignore Rheinhessen and the region's 200-year history. Neither can we. But we want to look at the events of two hundred years ago not only from a female perspective, but also from a Darmstadt perspective. This includes Franziska Lennig, Kathinka Zitz, Anna Ethel, and Agnes Pirscher, as well as the Alice Women's Association for Nursing, the Mainz Teacher Training College, and the Dreistädtebund Women's Art Association.

Rheinhessen may have been geographically close, but socially and politically, Darmstadt was where the action was for the women of Mainz. In addition, the brochure offers short portraits of the six Grand Duchesses of Hesse and by Rhine, the two Darmstadt women Louise Dittmar and Luise Büchner, and a brief description of important decisions made by the grand ducal government(s) regarding women's politics.

Upon receipt of €1.45 in stamps, we will gladly send you the brochure.
