The Art Advisory Board is responsible for advising the state capital of Mainz on important matters relating to the visual arts and making recommendations. It is independent in its opinion-forming and advises the mayor, the deputy mayors, and the authorities on all matters relating to the visual arts, in particular on issues

• the promotion of art
• the promotion of artists
• the awarding of prizes
• art education
• the installation of works of art in the cityscape and in public buildings
• in the design of public areas
• of exhibition projects with municipal participation
• the presentation of fine art in public
• in the selection and acceptance of artworks and art donations
• the integration of arts and crafts

The advisory activities of the art advisory board also include pointing out deficiencies and problems and making appropriate suggestions for improvement.

The members of the Art Advisory Board are appointed by the mayor on the recommendation of the head of the Department of Culture and with the approval of the Culture Committee. The work of the Art Advisory Board is voluntary. The chair of the Art Advisory Board is Ata Delbasteh, head of the Department of Culture.
