The practical training in the training archive provides insights into the following fields of work:

• Cooperation with municipal and state agencies from which documents are taken over for archiving
• evaluation and cataloging of documents and making them available for use,
• Preservation of holdings,
• Advising users in compliance with legal requirements,
• Processing inquiries,
• Public relations and educational work for the archive.

The theoretical part of the dual study program takes place at the Marburg Archival School.
Here, students acquire knowledge about archival working methods and their historical development, as well as how to handle different types of information and media in archives, from the oldest medieval documents to long-term electronic archiving.
