Discoveries in Finthen
Another discovery in our series leads to Mainz-Finthen.
People seem to have felt at home here for thousands of years, whether Celtic tribes or the ancient Romans. "Ad fontes" became Mainz-Finthen, and the former village became a district that has grown steadily. One of the construction areas is the Römerquelle, near which you will find the Königsborn. From this area, which is somewhat hidden today, a water pipe once led over the Römersteine to the upper town of Mainz.
The Meditation Trail also runs along quiet side streets, but also leads to the center of Finthen. Signs with Bible verses and other quotations invite you to reflect as you stroll along. It was created as an ecumenical initiative and connects the two churches in the village, among other things. In keeping with a long-standing tradition, Protestant and Catholic Christians also celebrate joint services, for example on Whit Monday. Speaking of holidays: Finthen asparagus is a staple of festive meals, especially in May and June – and of course it tastes great every day of the year too.
