Discoveries in Hechtsheim

Another discovery in our series leads to Mainz-Hechtsheim.

Coat of arms

This district of Mainz is not located directly on the water, but it does have fish in its name and coat of arms: pike like these can be found in the old town center of Hechtsheim.

Not far away, the water pipe of a fountain brings another animal to mind. In general, the streets and alleys here are reminiscent of villages in Rheinhessen, and indeed, it is not far from here to the surrounding countryside.

Wine press

Beautiful hiking and walking trails lead past vineyards and a wine press, for example in the direction of Großberg and Oberstadt. Speaking of wine: a good drop from local winegrowers is of course a must at celebrations in Hechtsheim.

Towards Laubenheim, meadows and fields line the path uphill, offering a beautiful view of the Frankenhöhe.

Figure

From there, you can cycle or stroll back to the terminus of tram line 52. This line is often referred to as the "electric" line, and this mode of transport has been in existence for 100 years. The proud trumpeter, who stands here as a sculpture in front of the volunteer fire department building, also seems to have reason to rejoice.
