Discoveries in Mombach
Another discovery in our series leads to Mainz-Mombach.
The Mombach Unterfeld is a natural oasis near the Rhine that is best explored on foot or by bike. From the path, you can observe special animal and plant species. In addition to its commitment to storks, the Mombach Environmental Working Group has created a place for bats, rare birds, and plants in this area outside the district. With the help of the municipal economic enterprise, a bat cellar has been created in the old pumping station. Here, the flying mammals find a safe shelter for the winter and, if necessary, also a summer quarters. In addition, there are nesting aids for several bird species and an insect hotel.
The old town center also offers places to linger and learn something new. The Pestalozzi School and the neighboring Friedenskirche (Peace Church) form a beautiful ensemble in the heart of Mombach. The church was built in Art Nouveau style and inaugurated in 1911.
The idyllic De La Roche complex is located nearby. It has been upgraded as part of the "Social City" initiative and invites people of all ages to relax and unwind.
