The former electoral stables house the extensive collection of the Mainz State Museum. It encompasses a wide range of works and genres: the oldest exhibits date back to the Paleolithic Age, such as hunting axes and grave goods, while the most recent are works of modern painting and video art from the 20th century. In addition, the museum presents a network of artists, deliberately emphasizing regional artists and using them to highlight the major themes and developments in art at the beginning of the 20th century.
