You can obtain a residence permit for the purpose of seeking training if you wish to complete qualified vocational training in Germany but have not yet found a training position. Qualified vocational training is defined as vocational training in a state-recognized or comparably regulated occupation that lasts at least two years.

You should not yet have reached the age of 35 and must be able to cover your living expenses and health insurance without claiming public benefits.

You can take up employment for up to 20 hours per week during your stay. Trial employment is possible for up to two weeks.

You will receive a residence permit if you:

• have sufficient German language skills at level B1 of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR)
• have a school leaving certificate that allows you to enter higher education or a degree from a German school abroad

The residence permit for the purpose of seeking a training place to complete qualified vocational training is temporary. It can be granted for a maximum of 9 months.

If you are under 18 years of age, you will need the consent of your legal guardians for your stay to apply for a place at university.

The proceedings at the immigration office are usually conducted in German.
